RIDGE GLAZING
About
The client in this project requested for the existing pool, and oak framed building over it, to be extended. Along with extending the pool house the client requested that the roof finish to be upgraded to Thatch and a large area of the ridge to be glazed.
Working closely with the Architect, Structural Engineer, Structural glazing company, Carpenters and Thatcher we sketched the design and agreed the sizes of the proposed glass panels to be added to the ridge.
Further discussions were made with the Structural Engineer to agree the details of the steel structure to support the glazed panels onto the Oak Frame.
MFM Design created a detailed model of the existing Oak Frame and the added the proposed steel structure to the top side of that. The glazing detail was then added to the steel and followed with the Thatch, Flashings and internal finishes.

The model was then shared with all involved. The model went through a few revisions until all involved approved the design.
The steels and glazing panels were then sized and fabricated from drawings taken from the model. The Steel structure was erected over the pool house Oak Frame. The carpenters then completed the internal finishings to hide the structural steelwork, cladding the steels with Oak to match the frame.
The glazing and flashings were installed and the roof completed with thatch.
The SketchUp model was layered to allow the stages of the build to be shown in their correct order, and elements could be hidden to allow the structural elements to be visualised.
The benefit of this model enabled multiple professionals & trades to visualise and approve the design and ensure they all functioned together before any parts were fabricated
